Zelensky and the impeachment of trump

The Ukrainian leader noted that the scandal surrounding a possible impeachment of US President Donald Trump, in which Zelensky also appears, had no effect on relations between the countries.

“I’m not sure that these warm relations were in any way affected by the issue of Donald Trump’s impeachment. But I have repeatedly said that this is our strategic partner. We are doing everything to improve our relations,” the President of Ukraine emphasized, expressing hope for concluding new business deals with the Americans.

When Zelensky goes to visit Trump

The President of Ukraine said that he could visit Washington “even tomorrow” if Ukraine benefits from such a visit.

“This is right for both countries and our status. But this is a new profession for me - to be a president. I receive many offers to visit certain countries. I have spoken with the Foreign Minister about what we can get from such a visit. What can Ukraine gain as a result of such a visit? I don't want to be just a political traveler. And so I’m ready to go even tomorrow,” Zelensky noted.

In turn, Pompeo added on his own that the Ukrainian leader will be able to visit Washington when there will be significant progress in relations between the countries, but expressed confidence that this will undoubtedly happen.

Will there be a replacement Walker

Zelensky said that he hopes for a more active role for the United States in resolving the conflict in the Donbass and in the de-occupation of Crimea. According to him, this participation of Washington can be strengthened by the appointment of a special representative on Ukraine. Previously, Kurt Walker held this position.

“Today I expressed the hope that the United States will be more actively involved in the settlement processes in eastern Ukraine and the de-occupation of Crimea through the appointment of a separate official from the State Department on these issues,” Zelensky emphasized.
