Scientists have identified a new transmission route for Chinese coronavirus
In addition to the most common airborne route by which the new Chinese coronavirus is transmitted, scientists have named another route - fecal-oral, or the method of transmission of the virus through the digestive tract, writes Fox News.
According to Chinese state media reports, scientists from Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and the Wuhan Institute of Virology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently discovered “viral genetic material” in stool samples and rectal swabs in some patients.
Some patients infected with the new 2019-nKoV coronavirus reported diarrhea at the very beginning of the disease, and not at all about fever, which was a more common symptom of the disease. This discovery is important because researchers have mainly focused on the transmission of the virus by airborne droplets from an infected person.
The first person out of 11 currently confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States suffered from diarrhea at the very beginning of the disease.

In general, human coronaviruses are most often spread through the air, through close contact with an infected person and touching a surface contaminated with the virus, and then touching your face with your hands. However, fecal contamination is another possible route of transmission of human coronaviruses, although a rare one, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of Monday morning, February 3, there were 6 cases of a new coronavirus in California, one in Arizona, one in Washington, one in Massachusetts, and 2 in Illinois. There were no deaths in the United States, and the vast majority of cases are still in China.
