The George Lucas Museum in Los Angeles is preparing to open its doors to the public on September 22.
Los Angeles will soon have ample space for space story lovers: the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, a George Lucas museum, will open there, writes New York Post.
The 27,870-square-meter architectural complex will welcome visitors for the first time on September 22nd at the Exposition Park. The museum building, shaped like a spaceship, was designed to showcase George Lucas's art collection. Visitors will be treated to a variety of exhibits, particularly of interest to fans of the iconic Star Wars saga.
For fans, the experience starts right at the entrance, where a massive yellow Naboo N-1 Starfighter from the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is displayed.

The museum's opening will begin with an exhibit dedicated to the history of Star Wars. It will showcase various versions of Luke Skywalker's anti-gravity vehicle from the first film in the 1970s, as well as the speedbikes from the 1983 film Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
However, museum representatives emphasize that it is wrong to consider it solely a “temple” of the film franchise.
Museum General Director Tracey Bates clarified that approximately 7% of the exhibition is devoted to Star Wars. The remainder includes works from the extensive personal art collection of George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson.
Lucas is an avid collector of comic art, as well as works by commercial artists, including Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish. Their works will also be featured in the museum's galleries.
A separate gallery is entirely dedicated to Norman Rockwell, the 20th-century artist whose images became a symbol of American culture.
The museum's exhibits are organized around themes of everyday life, including sports and civic engagement.
"We're interested in the stories they tell, not the artificial categories defined by disciplines," Ryan Lincoff, the museum's senior curator and director of film programs, told the Associated Press (AP). "That's the beautiful idea of myths, the myths of everyday life, the stories we tell ourselves."
The museum also features works by other iconic 20th-century artists, including Frida Kahlo and Andy Warhol.
The building was designed by architect Ma Yansong. Construction began in 2018. The total cost of the project was $1–$1,5 billion, financed entirely by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson.
"For me, it's like a cloud or a treetop hovering above you," Ma told the AP. "It's almost formless, but you want to discover something in it. So you have to go out and explore it."
"We've created an architectural space of emotions," he added. "We want to see people's reactions to this space."

In total, the museum has 100,000 square meters of exhibition space, 33 galleries and approximately 1300 works of art.
In addition, two cinemas will be available: one will show selected films throughout the day, and the other will be dedicated to exploring film as a form of storytelling.
According to museum staff, adult tickets will cost $25.
