A forest fire in California is approaching Michael Jackson's ranch: evacuation has been announced in the area
A fire called the Lake Fire is burning in Santa Barbara County, California. The fire threatens Michael Jackson's famous Neverland ranch, located in the path of the fire. Lake Fire has already destroyed more than 6 and a half thousand hectares of forests. Firefighters are battling blazes amid extreme heat across Southern California, but so far they have not been able to completely stop the fire from spreading, writes Eyewitness News.
The fire, which engulfed an area of 6,5 thousand hectares over the past weekend, July 6 and 7, has led to the fact that some areas are subject to evacuation. This also applies to Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch.
The Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County, near the Los Padres National Forest, remained at zero percent containment as of the morning of July 7, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention (CAL FIRE). This wording means that the spread of fire is not controlled in any way. Fire and rescue services were unable to provide barriers or fire lines that would stop or slow the spread of the fire. Efforts to contain the fire have not yet yielded results.
CAL FIRE noted that the Lake Fire is just one of more than 20 wildfires that engulfed California on July 7.
The fire broke out on July 5 in Santa Barbara County near Lake Zaca in the Los Padres National Forest, about 65 kilometers north of the county seat.
On the evening of July 6, Santa Barbara County issued an evacuation order. The evacuation zone also included a piece of land on Figueroa Mountain Road where the Neverland Ranch is located.
According to the sheriff's department, warnings were also issued to residents in the surrounding areas. They were notified to prepare for evacuation.
The wildfire broke out amid extreme heat sweeping the area and much of California.
The extreme heat warning will remain in effect this week. High temperatures, which did not subside even at night, and low humidity (about 11%) led to the drying out of grass and tree needles. The National Weather Service said the region hasn't experienced such intense heat in 20 years.
