Several drones attacked Moscow: residential buildings damaged

In Moscow on May 30 early in the morning they announced a drone attack. UAVs crashed into high-rise buildings of the capital of the Russian Federation, and also flew around Moscow, reports with the BBC.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed eyewitness reports of drones crashing into three apartment buildings in the southwest of the city, and Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov confirmed the work of air defense and drones shot down on approach to the capital. The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that eight UAVs took part in the attack, five of which were shot down. Reports of the attack came amid massive shelling of Kyiv for the third day in a row. Drones have flown to Moscow before - they attacked Kremlin in early May.

The Mayor of Moscow wrote on May 30 in the morning in the telegram channel that as a result of the UAV attack, minor damage had occurred in several buildings, the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.

“This morning, residents of some areas of the Moscow region could hear the sounds of explosions - this is our air defense. Several drones were shot down while approaching Moscow. I ask residents to remain calm,” wrote the governor of the Moscow region.

Drones in Moscow and Moscow region

Residents of the Moscow region found it difficult to remain calm, as they woke up from the sounds of explosions. Videos with flying aircraft-type drones appeared on Telegram channels and social networks. Reports of explosions and alleged air defense activity came from Odintsovo, Barvikha, Krasnogorsk and other places located in the immediate vicinity of Moscow.

In total, drones hit three residential buildings in Moscow: on Profsoyuznaya Street, on Atlasova Street in New Moscow and on Leninsky Prospekt - all outside the Moscow Ring Road.

According to local Telegram channels, at first (at about 4:30 am) explosions were heard along Atlasova Street in New Moscow. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on the 25th floor. As a result, windows shattered in several apartments nearby.

“Preliminarily, the cause of the explosion in a high-rise building in New Moscow could have been a UAV. At the time of the emergency, there were three people in the apartment on the 25th floor - two adults and a five-year-old child. They left the house on their own,” writes the Mash Telegram channel.

Subsequently, fragments similar to parts of a drone were found at the scene of the incident, after which the area was cordoned off, reports TSN.

Another drone previously crashed into a high-rise building in Moscow on Profsoyuznaya Street. Residents were evacuated there. As it became known, the UAV flew into the window on the 16th floor, the windows were damaged.

The attack in Moscow did not end there. A drone also crashed into a high-rise building on Leninsky Prospekt. Its fragments flew into the window of one of the apartments. After that, about 300 people were evacuated from the house.

The residents of the Moscow region also felt the attack. There, the drone first noticed in the sky over the village of Peskovo, reports RBC. Two more drones were shot down in the Istra district of the Moscow region with a difference of half an hour. They allegedly flew from the elite village of Benelux towards Krasnogorsk.

After which residents of Krasnogorsk and Odintsovo reported the sounds of explosions. According to them, smoke was visible in the sky over Krasnogorsk, and windows in houses were shaking. Another drone was later spotted in the Krasnogorsk area. But he was allegedly “shot down.” A total of three UAVs were spotted in the area. One is in the sky over the village of Funkovo, the second is over the village of Kezmino, the third is over the village of Romashkovo.

Interestingly, the air defense was not even so reliable in the elite Rublyovka, located 20 km from Moscow, where officials and other rich people live.

Some Russian publics are drawing attention to the fact that drone attacks have targeted areas where people close to dictator Vladimir Putin live. We are talking about prestigious southwestern microdistricts. In the Moscow region - Rublevskoye Highway and its surroundings, where oligarchs and officials live. At the same time, one of the drones fell in the village of Ilyinskoye - just 3 kilometers from President Putin’s residence in Novo-Ogarevo.

According to the telegram channel Base, there were a total of 25 drones in the attack. Most allegedly “were shot down in the Moscow region.”

Version of the Russian Ministry of Defense

The Russian Ministry of Defense later stated that Kiev had launched a “terrorist attack” with unmanned aerial vehicles “on targets in the city of Moscow.”

According to the Russian military department, eight aircraft-type drones were involved in the attack.

“All enemy drones have been hit,” says the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Three drones were not shot down, so they could have hit houses, according to the statement. “Three of them were suppressed by electronic warfare, lost control and deviated from their intended targets,” says a press release published on the Telegram channel. “Another five unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down by the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and gun system in the Moscow region.”

Attacks on Kyiv

News of the drones crashing into residential buildings and downing them came from Moscow as Kyiv was under heavy air strikes for the third night in a row. This is already the 17th attack since the beginning of the month, but their scale has increased.

On the night of May 28, authorities said the strike, involving more than 50 Shahed kamikaze drones, was the largest attack since the start of the war, killing one person. On the night of May 29, missiles were used in addition to drones, but there were no casualties.

On the night of May 30, Russia used at least 20 drones to attack Kyiv, they were shot down, city officials said. In the Goloseevsky district, due to the fall of debris on a multi-storey residential building, a fire broke out on the last two floors. According to preliminary information, one person died and three were injured. The Russian Defense Ministry did not comment on this.

The day before, Kyiv came under fire not only at night, but also during the day. The head of the military intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, commenting on the daytime shelling of Kyiv, threatened to respond to it. “All those who tried to intimidate us, dreaming that it would bring some effect, you will regret it very soon. Our answer will not be long in coming. Soon everyone will see everything,” he said. And the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, asked the question on television the day before: if the Russians can make Kyiv a nightmare, why are the residents of Moscow “resting”?

Kyiv has not yet officially commented on the morning attack on Moscow. However, on the YouTube channel Breakfast show, Advisor to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Mikhail Podolyak, said that in Ukraine they “look with pleasure” at what is happening and predict an increase in the number of attacks, although Kyiv “of course has nothing to do with them.”

Podolyak later added that “not all drones are ready to attack Ukraine and want to return to their creators.”

“They want to return to their creators and appropriately ask the question: “Why are you sending us to attack the children of Ukraine, Kiev, and so on? And the second aspect is important. All the people who believe that they can play a one-sided game, that they can destroy another sovereign state with absolute impunity... After 15 months, they didn’t understand that they wouldn’t have it in ’14? No signing of the dividing line... Each of them will be responsible in full,” Podolyak said.

Answering the question whether Ukraine has anything to do with today’s attacks on Moscow, the adviser to the head of the OPU said that “the country has something to do with artificial intelligence,” but there is no direct connection to the attacks.

The reaction of the Kremlin

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the new drone attack on Moscow as follows: “It is absolutely clear that we are talking about the Kyiv regime’s response to our very effective attacks on one of the decision-making centers. This blow is this Sunday.”

Peskov did not explain which decision-making center he had in mind, and added that President Vladimir Putin received information about the attack from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Mayor Sobyanin and Governor Vorobyov from the early morning. When asked whether Putin was planning an address on this matter, he replied that so far “there are no special plans.”

According to Peskov, he could not comment on the security of Moscow, but nevertheless expressed the opinion that the air defense system worked well. “We know that, thank God, there are no casualties. And at present there is no threat to residents of Moscow and the Moscow region,” Interfax quotes him as saying.
