Illegal shot and killed Washington State Deputy Sheriff
The federal authorities said that the suspect, who according to investigators shot and killed the deputy sheriff of the state of Washington and injured a police officer earlier this week, was in the US illegally.
In email Fox News Tanya Roman, an immigration and customs representative (ICE), said 29-year-old Juan Manuel Flores del Toro, a Mexican citizen, entered the United States in Laredo, Texas, in April 2014, on a temporary visa for agricultural workers.
Roman said that ICE has no records that he left the United States or extended a visa after it expired.
Local police said Flores del Toro lived in Ellensburg, a university campus with a population of 20 000 residents, in 100 miles east of Seattle.
Investigators say Flores del Toro mortally wounded Kittitas County Deputy Sheriff Ryan Thompson and 42-year-old Kitititas police officer Benito Chavez on Tuesday evening after they tried to stop his car after a complaint about driving. After a short pursuit, he allegedly got out of his car and opened fire on the officers. Later, the suspect was fatally wounded by officers who fired back. At Kittitas Valley Hospital, he was pronounced dead.
Ellensburg police captain Dan Hansberry stated that there were no arrest warrants, and the officers do not know why he fled after trying to stop him.
In the past, the police “had limited contact with him,” but Hansberry described them as “meaningless” without providing additional details.
Thompson was married, has three children and is the first law enforcement officer who was shot dead in Kittitas County from 1927 onwards.
