'Could you clarify': Prigozhin wrote a letter to the White House because of PMC 'Wagner'

The head of the Russian PMC Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, published on January 21 a short letter addressed to the White House. In it, the oligarch is interested in what crime his group is accused of, that Washington has announced new sanctions against his private military company. Writes about it Yahoo!.

White House national security spokesman John Kirby said the Wagner Group, which is supporting Russian troops during their invasion of Ukraine and actively participating in the fighting, will recognized as a transnational criminal organization.

An English-language letter addressed to Kirby and posted on Prigozhin's Telegram channel reads: "Dear Mr. Kirby, could you clarify what crime the Wagner PMC has committed?"

Kirby called the group "a criminal organization that commits massive atrocities and violates human rights."

Recently, the White House said that the Wagner PMC has accepted a shipment of weapons from North Korea to help bolster the position of Russian troops in Ukraine.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry called the allegations unfounded, and Prigozhin denied receiving such a delivery, calling the White House's statement "gossip and speculation."

Washington has already imposed restrictions on trade with the Wagner Group in 2017 in an attempt to limit their access to weapons.

In December 2021, the European Union imposed its own sanctions against PMC Wagner, which operated in Syria, Libya, the Central African Republic, Sudan, Mozambique, Mali, and Ukraine.

Prigozhin described his private military company as a completely independent force with its own aircraft, tanks, missiles and artillery.

He is wanted in the United States for meddling in US elections, which, as he said in November 2022, he did and will continue to do.
