Named the best and worst states for retirement

According to a new study BankrateNebraska is the best retirement state, followed by Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota and Florida. Last in the ranking is Maryland.

The study also says that retirees should better visit New York and Alaska, but not live there.

In the study, analysts took into account a number of factors: availability (40%), crime (5%), culture (15%), weather (15%), health care (25%).

In Nebraska, the average annual temperature is about 10 degrees Celsius, unlike in Hawaii, where the average annual temperature is 26 degrees Celsius.

Although the weather is not the most pleasant, compared with other states, there are good indicators of health care, relatively low living expenses, many attractions and low crime rates.

Second place went to the state of Iowa. There are many attractions and affordable life.

Third place was taken by the state of Missouri. Here is a temperate climate, but high in culture, health and safety.

Analysts say that after retirement, Americans often change their addresses. According to the latest data from the US Census Bureau, almost 570 thousands of adults aged 65 and older moved to a new state or district of Columbia last year.

In a survey of Transamerica's Center for Transnational Studies in 2018, retirees said that 4 from 10 retirees (38%) would like to move at least once.

The results of the study show that when choosing a place of residence, retired people appreciate proximity to family and friends, affordable cost of living, access to good medical care and hospitals, good weather and low crime rates.

Fidelity Investments estimates that the average retired couple in 65 years of age need 250 thousands of dollars to pay for medical expenses. This cost does not include costs that may be needed for long-term care.
