Real hero: 12-year-old boy saved a child locked in a red-hot car

An 12-year-old boy from Oklahoma was recognized as a hero after rescuing an 2-year-old child locked in a car parked in the heat.

Ben Terio in an attempt to save the baby broke the car window with a luggage belt, which he found in his mother’s car, writes New York Post.

“I started hitting the side window and it didn’t break, but it was pretty badly damaged,” he said.

“I threw the belt over my shoulder and hit it right in the center of the glass. Then I hit it a couple more times and then climbed onto the windshield. I started kicking it and it cracked badly. Then the lady handed me a hanger and hooked the windshield and pulled it out. And then I opened the car,” Theriault said.

According to Tulsa Police, the August 13 heat index when the incident occurred was 116 degrees Fahrenheit (47 Celsius).

Investigators found that the mother of the child at this time was shopping. She was fined 250 dollars.

According to her mother, it was an accident because she thought another adult was looking after the child while she was in the store. However, the fact that the car with the child inside did not work and was locked convinced the police of the implausibility of its history. This led to a fine under state law called “Don't Forget Me.”

The woman was not arrested because the 2-year-old boy was not seriously injured, and the police did not have good enough reason to initiate proceedings on an unattended child.
