Our galaxy is full of dead alien civilizations: exploration
Scientists speculate that most of the existing alien civilizations in the Milky Way most likely destroyed themselves. Researchers have even created a map of the emergence and disappearance of intelligent life in our galaxy. Фокус.
These are the conclusions reached by three physicists from the California Institute of Technology. In their research, they used the tools of modern astronomy and statistical modeling to map the rise and fall of intelligent life in the Milky Way.
In fact, the results of the study continue and update the well-known equation developed in 1961 by the founder of Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, Frank Drake. Drake's Equation is a formula designed to determine the number of extraterrestrial civilizations in the galaxy with which humanity has a chance to come into contact.
The new formula went ahead, and thanks to it, it is possible to determine where and when life most likely originated in the Milky Way. Also, the equation takes into account one important factor - the craving of intelligent beings to self-destruction.

In addition, the authors considered a number of other factors influencing the spread of life. For example, the prevalence of sun-like stars with exoplanets, the frequency of deadly supernova explosions, the probability and time required for intelligent life to develop under suitable conditions.
By simulating the evolution of the Milky Way over time, taking these factors into account, scientists have found that the likelihood of life emerging peaks about 13 light-years from the center of the galaxy and 8 million years after the formation of the galaxy itself. For comparison: the Earth is located about 25 thousand light years from the center of the galaxy, and human civilization emerged 13,5 billion years after the formation of the Milky Way.
From this point of view, humanity is most likely a border civilization, which later came to self-realization.

Scientists believe that those alien civilizations that exist in the Milky Way are still quite young today, and the ancient intelligent civilization would most likely have destroyed itself by now. The researchers also found that even if the galaxy had reached its civilization peak more than 5 billion years ago, then most of these civilizations would have already self-destructed.
The last factor is the most uncertain variable. How often do civilizations destroy themselves? This factor is most important in determining how widespread civilizations are. Even an extremely low probability is enough to consider most of the peak civilizations of the Milky Way dead.
