New York City population exceeded 8,5 million inhabitants
The population of New York for the first time exceeded 8,5 millions of inhabitants, according to the US Census Bureau.
“New York is a city where everyone wants to move to, and then stay here,” Carl Weisbrod, head of the city’s planning commission, commented on the news.
Over the past five years, over 375 thousands of people have moved to the city. Only last year in the city settled 55 211 new residents.
The largest increase in newcomers was in Queens - 16 people settled there. For the first time in many years, Brooklyn was in second place with 700 people.
The Bronx, which led the fast-growing population, increased by 13 687 residents.
Manhattan welcomed 7 new residents, and Staten Island added 552 residents.
