The court found Zelensky guilty of illegal campaigning in elections

A Kyiv court fined the newly elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky a fine of 850 UAH (about $31,5) for showing him a completed ballot, writes “UNIAN«.

“The defense’s claim that Zelensky acted unintentionally is refuted by the corresponding video recording of the demonstration of the ballot... The court decided to find Zelensky guilty of committing an administrative offense under Art. 212-10 (Violation of restrictions on election campaigning) of the Code of Administrative Offenses, and apply an administrative fine in the amount of 50 tax-free minimum incomes of citizens (850 UAH), as well as collect from him a court fee in the amount of 344 UAH 40 kopecks,” the judge read out the verdict.

He clarified that the decision can be appealed within 10 days and will enter into force after the end of the appeal period.

Recall, April 21 presidential candidate Vladimir Zelensky at a polling station showed his filled in ballot, which shows that he voted for himself. Later, the speaker of the election headquarters of Zelensky, Dmitry Razumkov, said that the police had handed the presidential candidate an administrative report for showing the completed ballot.

On YouTube’s headquarters channel, Zelensky’s headquarters broadcast how police officers drafted a report on violation of Article 212-10 of the Administrative Offenses Code of Ukraine (“Violation of restrictions on the conduct of pre-election campaign”),Newspaper.ru.

“We can state the fact that this is happening [making the protocol] right at headquarters, but not in the media zone,” said a representative of “Ze! Team”.

The network also got a video where you can see how the leader of the election race is sitting at the table next to the patrol and fills the paper. In response to the words of the police officer that he should draw up a protocol, Zelensky replied: “I violated. Law is law".

A little later, a comment on the current situation was also given by the representative of Zelensky headquarters, Dmitry Razumkov.

“This was not done for the purpose of PR. It turned out how it happened, ”explained the colleague of the future head of Ukraine.

He added that journalists who arrived at the polling station where Zelensky voted, asked not to throw paper into the ballot box to make one frame.

"But then there was an unfortunate mistake, and Zelensky kept the bulletin in expanded form, and not turning," - said the representative of the headquarters of the candidate.

Razumkov wrote on his Facebook page that all residents of the country, regardless of their status, must obey the current legislation of the country.

“New president - new rules. All must live by the law! Zelensky is handed a protocol on administrative violation for showing the bulletin, ”the post says.

In court, Zelensky’s lawyers said that their client did not violate the law on presidential elections and did not campaign for anyone when he showed his ballot. They stated that there was no violation by Zelensky.

Against the background of all that is happening, the head of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, Tatyana Slipachuk, said that violations of the electoral process during the election of the Ukrainian leader will not affect the results. Slipachuk noted that there are no grounds for violations to affect the voting results.

Election violations can lead to the cancellation of the result. So, a week ago, the Higher Election Commission of Turkey supported the demand of the Justice and Development Party headed by the country's president Tayyip Erdogan to cancel the election results of the mayor of Istanbul.

The ministry explained this decision by the detected violations in the documentation, as well as by the fact that not only civilians were among the observers. A new election is scheduled for June 23.
