Two planes collided over a lake in Florida, killing everyone on board
On March 7, four people were killed when two small planes collided over Lake Hartridge in Florida. The Hill.

Search and rescue teams arrived at Lake Hartridge, about 80 miles east of Tampa, after the planes collided around 14 p.m., according to the Winter Haven Police Department.
“It was a mid-air collision and both planes immediately fell into the water,” said Polk County Governor Steve Lester. One aircraft went under water to a depth of 6 m.

According to investigators, one of the planes was a Piper J-3 Cub seaplane operated by Jack Brown's Seaplane Base in Winter Haven. The other aircraft was a fixed-wing Cherokee Piper 161 operated by Sunrise Aviation in Ormond Beach on behalf of Polk State College.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office has identified three of the four people who died in the plane crash. They include pilot Fairth Irene Baker, 24, from Winter Haven, Polk State College student Zachary Jean Mays, 19, and Randall Elbert Crawford, 67, from Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Officials said they were working to identify the fourth victim.
“My heart goes out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in today's plane crash. The NTSB and FAA will investigate the causes and circumstances of the collision. Please remember the families of the victims in your prayers during this difficult and stressful time,” Sheriff Grady Judd said.

Police also asked residents on March 7 to avoid a nearby boat ramp and to avoid boating in the area. The collision took place near Winter Haven Regional Airport. Details about what led to the crash have not yet been released.
