Ukrainian woman wins for the first time in the elections to the US Congress: what is known about her

In the US elections to the House of Representatives of Congress, for the first time in history, a native of Ukraine, Victoria Spartz, who ran for the Republican Party in Indiana, won, writes “New Time«.

According to The New York Times, 51.7% voted for Spartz. Her Democratic rival Christina Hale garnered 44.2% of the vote. Spartz in the House of Representatives will take the place of Republican Susan Brooks, who has retired.

Spartz will begin serving as a member of the House of Representatives in January 2021, thus becoming the first ethnic Ukrainian woman in the US Congress.

Victoria Sparts was born on October 1, 1978 in the city of Nosovka, Chernihiv region. It is known that she graduated from the Kiev National Economic University named after Vadim Hetman. There she received her BA in International Economics and an MBA.

Spartz emigrated to the United States in 2000, and in 2006 she received citizenship. In 2000, Victoria Spartz married Jason Sparts. Now the couple are raising two daughters - 13-year-old Anna-Liliana and 12-year-old Victoria-Ingrid.

Career

In the United States, Victoria Spartz received her master's degree in professional accountancy from Indiana University, where she then remained to teach. She also completed the Harvard Business School's Graduate Program in Healthcare.

She later became chief financial officer for the Indiana Attorney General's Office. In 2017, she won a senatorial seat in Indiana. Spartz also ran as a Republican then and defeated six candidates. She has also worked for Big Four accounting firms. He is currently chairman of the Hamilton County Republican Party.

On the official website of the politician it is said that she grew up in Ukraine under the rule of the socialists, because Spartz, from her own experience, felt the dark side of socialism.

“This experience shaped her conservative political philosophy: limited government is always better, and financial and health decisions should be made by people in the free market, not by bureaucrats and lobbyists,” the website says.

The politician’s political slogan is “Stop socialism.” She noted that she had openly addressed Republican voters more than once and warned about the dangers of socialism. Spartz also conducted her election campaign from the position of a businesswoman.

Spartz was the founder of the Hamilton County Tea Party and was also named Republican Woman of the Year in Hamilton County.
