In Russia, the doctor filed a case because of the likes in the social network
Suspect faces five years in prison.
The investigative committee opened a criminal case on extremism against a doctor from the town of Sovetskaya Gavan of the Khabarovsk Territory for putting a “class” (like) picture in “Odnoklassniki”. TJournal writes about this with reference to the lawyer of the suspect Konstantin Sukovaty. He did not disclose the name of the defendant for security reasons.
The doctor was detained and placed in custody before the court for two days. The state prosecution petitioned for the arrest, but the court left the suspect free. According to the law, a doctor faces up to five years in prison.
In a conversation with the publication “Khabarovsk krai today”, Sukovaty did not explain what the picture was about, noting that, according to the investigation, it “contains statements aimed at demeaning the dignity of a group of people of Russian nationality”. He also told MBH Media that the image condemned the participation of Russians in the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine.
You hold the phone, for example, you have a bunch of friends, you just automatically scroll, and you can accidentally click somewhere. Or a child could do it.
This is the first such precedent in Russian judicial practice, when people become accused not because of the placement of materials in their social networks or reposts, but because of likes or “classes”, said Sukhovaty. According to him, the doctor works in intensive care, “a conscientious person, and not some kind of extremist there” and “really saves people's lives.” In court, the representative of the suspect provided letters and thanks from residents, the administration and the hospital.
In June, the State Duma introduced a bill on the abolition of criminal responsibility for reposts in social networks, which will replace the real terms with fines. The Supreme Court, which recommended to soften the norms in the document in 2016, recognized the current initiative of the deputies as contradictory and recommended its completion.
