Constitution Day celebrated in Ukraine
In Ukraine, 28 June celebrated Constitution Day. On this occasion, President Petro Poroshenko laid flowers at the monument to hetman Pylyp Orlyk. He was the author of the very first Ukrainian Constitution.
Poroshenko also visited the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy university, where he talked with students and teachers.
The Constitution of Ukraine was adopted on June 28 1996 of the year at the 5 session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 2 meeting. Since then, this holiday is public and is celebrated annually.
The very first Ukrainian Constitution was created in 1710 by Hetman Pylyp Orlyk. It is one of the first constitutions of Europe. The document was in two copies: in ancient Ukrainian and in Latin. The Ukrainian copy is in the Russian State Archive. Latin - in the National Archives of Sweden.
