So much pink paint was used on the set of 'Barbie' that it caused shortages around the world.

According to the production designer, the new Barbie movie used so much pink paint on set that it was scarce all over the world. The edition told in more detail Business Insider.

Greta Gerwig's new film Barbie pays homage to the iconic color. On the set, everything was covered in pink paint, which caused a shortage of it around the world.

Gerwig said she hired production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Kathy Spencer to design Barbie's Dream House, the dollhouse where the character lives.

The director, who brought classic stories such as Snow White and Little Women to the big screen, insisted that everything on set be pink because "preserving the childishness is paramount."

“I wanted the pinks to be very bright, and there was just too much,” Greenwood explained. She doesn't want to forget what made her fall in love with Barbie when she was a little girl."

The construction of the sets has led to an international shortage of Rosco's fluorescent paints, she said.

“The world has run out of pink,” she stated.

Gerwig said she wanted to create a "genuine artificiality" feel for the sets, and even used hand-painted sky and mountain backgrounds rather than CGI.

The hotly anticipated film will hit theaters on July 21st. It features an all-star cast including Margot Robbie as Barbie, Ryan Gosling as her boyfriend Ken, Emma McKee and Kate McKinnon.

The newly released trailer shows that the color pink wasn't just used for clothing and furniture—a hint of pink was added to the scenery and landscaping.

One of the videos shows Barbie's dream house with a pink slide descending into the pool, a pink shower, a pink bed, and lots of other pink accessories.

According to search platform Lyst, trailers and advertisements for the film have heightened interest in the Barbiecore aesthetic, with shoppers going out of their way to get their hands on the pink outfits and items. For example, the hashtag Barbiecore on TikTok has 342,3 million views.
