Americans captured in Ukraine were shown on Russian TV: one of them said that the West exaggerated the tragedy of the war

Two U.S. military veterans captured by the Russians in Ukraine were featured on a Russian newscast. Writes about it Fox News.

In footage shown on a broadcast by the Russian news agency RT, the missing men, Alex Dryuke and Andy Hyun (both from Alabama), were seen for the first time since they went missing on June 9.

“Mom, I just want you to know that I am alive and I hope to return home as soon as I can,” Druke said.

He winks at his mother and tells her to take care of his dog.

“So, spoil Diesel for me. I love you,” he added.

Dianna Shaw, Druke's aunt, said the videotape included a secret word and gesture they had discussed during his previous trips to Iraq. The gesture confirms his identity and lets her know he's all right.

The RT agency was reporting in English. It follows from it that two Americans separated from their group, then approached the Russian patrol and surrendered. The report says Russia-backed separatist forces are holding the men.

“When the war started on February 24, there was a lot of news. Now I believe that it was propaganda of the West, and not only the United States, but the West as a whole,” Hyun says in the video. — It was reported that the Russians indiscriminately kill civilians. During my travels, I have not seen this.”

He also noted that the prisoners are treated humanely: they give water, blankets, so that it is not cold.

Druke previously served in the US Army, including two tours to Iraq. Hyun was in the US Marine Corps.

Neither the United States nor the Russian government has confirmed the fact of the detention of the Americans.
