'They press us heavily': New York nurses openly talk about work during the COVID-19 epidemic

According to this nurse, in the department where she works, employees wear ordinary bathrobes and face masks, while their eyes and head are not protected in any way.

“We conduct the entire procedure face-to-face with the patient wearing a regular mask and gown, even when they are exhibiting signs and symptoms of COVID-19,” the letter states.

On the eighth day of isolation, the nurse showed cough, runny nose, headaches, and diarrhea. She said that she tried to get through the hotlines, which are recommended to contact New Yorkers if they want to take a coronavirus test. However, there she was told that she was "not sick enough" to undergo testing.

“It scares me that I didn’t get tested because I’m about to turn 51 and I suffer from asthma, diabetes and hypertension,” she said.

Carlson also read out the second letter from another New York nurse.

According to this woman, now the influx of patients who are taken to an ambulance is about three times larger than usual. However, many patients are sent home without checking for the presence of the disease.

“There's always a fear that someone we send home is actually sick,” she said.

The second nurse also described in detail the reuse of masks and other protective equipment. She also said that 80% of beds are filled with patients with coronavirus. The nurse also spoke about her fear of getting sick herself and infecting family members.
