In the Caribbean, the plane blew a tourist to death. VIDEO
New Zealand tourist died on the island of St. Maarten in the Caribbean, watching as the plane takes off from the international airport of Princess Julianne, reports the BBC.
At this airport, ships fly over the heads of tourists because of the short length of the runway. According to local police, 57-year-old woman looked at the plane, holding the airport fence, however, it was blown away by a strong air flow from the Boeing 737 engines.
According to local media, the tourist fell and hit her head on the concrete structure. The woman was taken to the hospital, however, it was not possible to save her.
Note that the Caribbean island of Saint Martin (or Sint Maarten) is divided into two approximately equal parts between France and the Netherlands. Princess Julianne Airport and its adjacent Maho Beach are located on the Dutch side. Thanks to the opportunity to watch planes take off and land from a minimum distance, the beach has become very popular among airspotters - people who are interested in watching airplanes.
The airport runways start 50 meters from the beach. There are signs warning of danger along the perimeter of the air harbor. Princess Julianne International Airport is considered one of the most dangerous in the world - its runways are only 2300 meters long. Signs warning about the dangers of watching airplanes line the perimeter of the airport fence.
