Hawaii lava bomb exploded: more than a dozen injured
On Monday morning, a lava bomb landed in a tourist boat in Hawaii, injuring an 12 man, according to the county police department.
Lava punctured the roof of the boat, after which the ship returned to the harbor of Wailoah. Three injured were taken to Hilo Medical Center, two in stable and one in serious condition, writes CNN.
One of the victims, a 20-year-old woman, suffered a fractured femur. The remaining nine passengers made it to the hospital on their own, with authorities saying their injuries were minimal.
The lava bomb, a flying piece of molten rock, left a large hole in the ship's roof and damaged a railing, fire officials said. It is not known exactly where the incident took place. But from where the lava meets the ocean in the harbor is about an hour's boat ride, depending on the intensity of the waves.
The eruption of the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii began in early May - a smoldering stream headed towards residential areas on the Big Island. The eruption was still ongoing this Sunday, according to the USGS.
Those who watched the return of the boat said that stones were scattered all over the ship, some people went on land with burns on their feet, and they carried one on a stretcher. In total, the boat seats 49 people, but how many people went on this trip, not reported.
