This weekend, the US will see a double sunrise: a very rare phenomenon

A solar eclipse will be visible in the skies over Western Europe and eastern North America this week. Residents of parts of the Atlantic coast of the United States and Canada will also be able to see such a rare phenomenon as a double sunrise, reports NBC

According to maps provided by NASA, the partial eclipse will be visible in Western Europe and along the East Coast of the United States. In cities such as Boston, almost half of the Sun will be covered by the Moon, while in New York and Washington, D.C., the proportion will be reduced.

However, these places will not be able to see the rarest spectacle of the eclipse, which will occur on March 29 in some areas along the Atlantic coast - the so-called double sunrise.

A double sunrise is a rare optical phenomenon that can occur during a partial solar eclipse, when the Sun is just rising above the horizon. The optical phenomenon occurs when the Moon already partially covers the solar disk at the moment of its sunrise, which creates the illusion that the Sun is divided into two parts.

As a result, observers may see something similar to "devil's horns" - two bright arcs that appear above the horizon until the Sun is fully up. This phenomenon can only be observed under special conditions: when a partial eclipse coincides with sunrise and the horizon remains clear (for example, over the ocean).

According to LiveScience, some observers will be able to see the moon's silhouette cut the sun in two as it rises, as it has already done in Qatar.

According to the publication, this phenomenon will be visible to residents of the northeastern part of Maine, as well as parts of New Brunswick and Quebec in Canada.
