Encouraging figures: the number of victims of air crashes in 2019 decreased significantly

In 2019, 257 people died in accidents involving large commercial aircraft. Writes about this "Voice of America".

The death toll in major catastrophes of commercial airlines in 2019 fell by more than half, despite the crash of a Boeing 737 MAX in Ethiopia in March of the same 2019.

This was stated by the Dutch consulting company To70.

According to To70, in 2019 there were 86 accidents involving large commercial aircraft, including 8 with casualties, in which 257 people died.

For comparison: in 2018, 160 accidents occurred, including 13 fatalities, in which 534 people died.

According to To70 estimates, the share of flights that ended in a fatal accident in 2019 was only 0,18 per one million flights. In other words, on average only one flight out of 5,58 million was fatal. This is significantly less than the same indicator in 2018.
