'We'll Continue': US Extends Sanctions Against Russia for Interfering in Elections

The United States has expanded sanctions against Russian citizens and companies for interfering in elections, the US Treasury Department said.

Denis Igorevich Kuzmin (1990 year of birth) and Igor Vladimirovich Nesterov (1985 year of birth) are included in the updated sanctions lists. According to Washington, they are associated with the Internet Research Agency, writes RIA News.

In addition to Kuzmin and Nesterov, restrictions will apply to Autolex Transport Ltd and Beratex Group Limited, registered in the Seychelles, as well as Linburg Industries Ltd, which is registered in the Czech Republic.

According to the US Department of the Treasury, these firms and individuals are associated with Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin.

As explained in the department, the purpose of today's sanctions is to increase pressure on Prigogine. For this, restrictions are also imposed on a yacht and three aircraft formally owned by companies that have fallen under sanctions.

The head of the Treasury Department, Steven Mnuchin, noted that the Russian entrepreneur tried to “undermine American democratic processes.”

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in turn, said that Washington will continue to work to ensure that “Prigozhin and others like him” do not find a comfortable shelter until they stop conducting “destabilizing activities that threaten the United States, its allies and partners.”

“We are clear: we will not tolerate foreign interference in our elections. The United States will continue to stand against those who seek to undermine our democratic processes, and we will not hesitate to impose additional sanctions to increase pressure on Russia for its destabilizing and unacceptable actions,” the head of the State Department said.
