'We showed a master class': Prigozhin said he was not going to overthrow the Putin regime

In his speech, Prigozhin called the Wagner PMC the most experienced and combat-ready unit in Russia. He stated that the PMC should have ceased to exist on July 1 due to “intrigues and ill-considered decisions,” and that most of the mercenaries refused to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense, realizing that they would “be used as meat.”

Prigozhin stressed that those mercenaries who wanted to join the regular army of the Russian Federation did so, but, according to him, this is no more than 1-2%.

The goals of the rebellion and its success

“We were going to leave on June 30 and transfer equipment near the headquarters of the Northern Military District. We did not show any aggression, but we were hit by a missile attack, killing about 30 soldiers. This served as a trigger - we decided to move forward immediately,” Prigozhin said. “I said that we are not going to show aggression, but if they hit us, we will respond.”

During the entire march, the mercenaries traveled 780 kilometers. Prigozhin expressed regret over the strikes on aviation, as a result of which the mercenaries eliminated three helicopters and a plane. The head of the PMC said that this happened in response to the bombardment of his soldiers from the air.

Prigozhin said that the mercenaries blocked and neutralized all military installations that were in their path, and that “not a single person died.” In turn, according to Prigozhin, the PMC had losses: several wounded and two more dead soldiers of the Ministry of Defense, who allegedly joined the PMC.

Prigozhin also outlined the goal of the rebellion: “The goal of the campaign is to prevent the destruction of the Wagner PMC and to bring to justice those who made so many mistakes during the SVO.”

He stressed that all the soldiers they saw supported PMCs, as did civilians.

“We stopped when the first detachment deployed its artillery, did reconnaissance - and it became obvious that a lot of blood would be shed,” he said. “We thought the demonstration was enough.” At this time, Lukashenko extended his hand and offered to find solutions for the further work of PMCs in legal jurisdiction.”

On the evening of June 24, Prigozhin, after negotiations with Alexander Lukashenko, said that the mercenaries "are leaving in the opposite direction to the field camps according to the plan."

Prigozhin adds that his march revealed serious security problems throughout the Russian Federation. His mercenaries managed to block all airfields and military units.

“In 24 hours, we covered the distance that corresponds to the distance from the launch site of Russian troops on February 24, 2022 to Kyiv and from the same point to Uzhgorod,” he said. “If at the beginning of the North Military District the tasks were carried out by the same people as PMC mercenaries, perhaps the special operation would have lasted a day.”

“We showed a master class of what February 24, 2022 could look like. We did not have the goal of overthrowing the existing regime and the legally elected government. We turned around so as not to shed blood,” Prigozhin concluded.

Putin's speech

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation on the evening of June 26, during which he commented on the armed mutiny of the Wagner PMC, reports Meduza.

During the appeal, Putin said that they tried to use PMC mercenaries in the dark. The President of the Russian Federation offered the fighters of the "Wagner Group" to sign a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense or other law enforcement agencies, return to their families or leave for Belarus.

“Whoever wants to can go to Belarus. The promise I made will be fulfilled. I repeat, the choice is up to each of you, but I’m sure it will be the choice of Russian soldiers who realized their tragic mistake,” Putin said.

During his address, the Russian President said, without naming names, that the organizers of the rebellion had betrayed their country, people and “those who were dragged into the crime.” “The armed rebellion would have been suppressed in any case. The organizers of the rebellion, despite the loss of adequacy, could not help but understand this,” Putin said.

During his speech, the president thanked the Russian military, law enforcement officers and intelligence agencies. In his address, Putin specifically mentioned the pilots of the Ministry of Defense who died during the mutiny. “The courage and self-sacrifice of the fallen heroic pilots saved Russia from tragic destructive consequences,” Putin said.

The address of the President of the Russian Federation lasted a little more than five minutes. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, announcing Putin’s speech, said that “these statements, without exaggeration, will determine the fate of Russia.”
