Man tried to drink all the cocktails in the hotel bar and died after 12 drinks

A British man who was vacationing with his family in Jamaica died suddenly. He took part in a prank challenge, during which it was necessary to drink 21 cocktails from the bar's menu. New York Post.

Timothy Southern tried 21 cocktails from the menu when he returned to his hotel room at the Royal Decameron Club Caribbean in St. Anne, where he later died.

A pathologist from Kingston said the cause of death of a 53-year-old man from Staffordshire was "acute gastroenteritis caused by alcohol use."

The initial investigation into Southern's death found that he had been drinking brandy and beer all morning.

At some point during the day, Southern met two women from Canada who were celebrating a birthday. The women told him they were trying to complete a challenge of drinking 21 cocktails before midnight as part of their celebration. It is not clear how quickly Southern drank 12 of them.

His family members who were with him on the trip said they tried in vain to help him.

“He lay on his back and suffocated. I laid him down and called an ambulance. He made gurgling sounds and vomited. I called out his name, but he did not answer,” one of his family members told authorities.

The family expressed outrage and dissatisfaction with the ambulance crews that tried to rescue him at the hotel, claiming that they were not prepared to take care of him effectively.

“When the nurse arrived, I asked if an ambulance had been called and she said no. I thought she would try to save the man herself. But it's not. I noticed that his body temperature began to drop. I checked his pulse and could not feel it,” the relative said.

“The nurse said he had a pulse. I looked at his face and thought he had passed away,” the relative said.

The relative claimed that the nurse had not been properly trained in rescue operations.

"I said, 'Don't sit there and look at him, start CPR.' She only gave him chest compressions. Maybe if she knew what she was doing, maybe he would still be alive. The service and treatment he received was disgusting,” added the grieving relative.
