More than half of Americans think Trump is a dangerous dictator
Most Americans are convincedthat Trump is a "dangerous dictator" who poses a threat to democracy. They believe the 47th president has overstepped his authority, including by firing federal workers en masse, writes Axios.

The poll, released April 29 to mark Trump's XNUMXth day in office, was the latest evidence that the president is losing support over his immigration and economic policies, two of the main points on which he campaigned.
Only 4 in 10 Americans expressed a positive opinion of Trump after his first 100 days in office, according to a survey by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI).

A majority of independent voters (56%) agreed that Trump is a “dangerous dictator,” suggesting that the moderate voters who helped him return to power are turning their backs on him.
The poll found dissatisfaction with Trump's actions to carry out mass deportations, impose massive trade tariffs, tighten controls on colleges and fire more than 100 federal workers.
The new administration's policies have resulted in the unilateral termination of diversity and equality programs, the revocation of student visas, and the detention of at least one wrongly deported man in a notorious prison in El Salvador despite a court order for his return.
According to the poll, 83% of Republicans (a relatively low figure for Trump) rated his performance positively, compared with 35% of independents and only 8% of Democrats.
Many respondents expressed concern about Trump's efforts to restructure the government, impose trade tariffs and deport people without due process.
Majorities of African Americans, Hispanics and Asians agreed that Trump is a "dangerous dictator," compared with 45% of white Americans.
“Most Americans view Trump as a dictator. I think they are concerned that American democracy is under threat,” said PRRI CEO Melissa Deckman. “We are only 100 days into the Trump administration, and we are already seeing resistance to his agenda from a majority of Americans.”
On the other hand, 81% of Republicans polled said they still believe "Trump is a strong leader who should be empowered to make America great again."
51% of white Americans agreed with this.
Trump has criticized several polls published by media outlets that showed his approval ratings slipping, writing in Truth Social on April 28 that they were "fake."
Americans are divided on Trump's immigration policies, Deckman said. But polling shows that most people strongly disagree with the measures being unconstitutional or inhumane.
For example, a majority of Americans (61%) disagree that the federal government should place illegal immigrants in camps guarded by the U.S. military before deporting them.
Additionally, the majority believes that "President Trump has exceeded his authority by ordering a mass layoff of federal employees across multiple departments."

More than 70% of Americans oppose closing or scaling back all major federal agencies, especially those that provide air travel safety, medicine, and water supplies.
Two-thirds of Americans oppose new tariffs or taxes on goods imported from other countries.
The American Values Survey was conducted online from February 28 to March 20 and included 5 respondents ages 025 and older from all 18 states and the District of Columbia.
