Fraudsters with social benefits issued glamorous photos on Facebook

The Manhattan Prosecutor’s Office intends to return $ 22 million, which were paid more than 100 to social insurance fraudsters who used fake psychiatric reports, to illegally receive from $ 30 thousand to $ 50 thousand social payments per year.

One of the scammers, Glenn Lieberman, a former New York City police officer, received more than $ 175 thousand, saying he was injured during the September 11 attacks on 2001, reports Daily Mail.

According to medical reports, Lieberman claimed that he was so traumatized by the events he saw that he was afraid to leave the house.

However, law enforcement officers found photographs posted on the social networks of a 48-year-old former police officer, in which he is depicted riding water skiing in Florida. They also found that he was shooting a mansion on the embankment.

The district attorney of New York filed charges for fraudsters in 2014 year after the fraud was revealed through photographs of some of the participants in the scam on social networks.

Lieberman, who falsely claimed that he was directly at the site of the September 11 bombings on 2001, was ordered to pay $ 250 thousands of restitution and pass 250 hours of community service after he admitted his guilt of theft.

Lieberman worked in the New York City police for 19 for years and received pension payments for his service, to which he decided to add funds obtained through fraud.

Besides him, another 120 man pleaded guilty to such fraud.

One former officer, Richard Cosentino, published his photo on a fishing trip in Costa Rica, although, according to the findings of the examination, he suffered from a mental disorder and received social benefits in connection with this. The court ordered him to pay more than $ 200 thousand as restitution.

One of the scammers still has to stand trial, the former officer Louis Hurtado lied to the social insurance system for 26 years and illegally received about $ 470 thousand. Hurtado received a disability allowance, which allegedly did not give him the opportunity to work, but at the same time, the former officer conducted courses on training people in martial arts.

In addition to the police, employees of the Fire Department of New York and the Prison Service also participated in the scams.

They all reported mental illness, allegedly resulting from the September 11 attacks or other events, including PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), depression, and other types of mental disorder.
