Amazon is recalling 200 power banks because they catch fire while in use.
About 210,000 portable power banks with lithium-ion batteries sold on Amazon are being recalled due to a fire and burn hazard, according to CBS NewsThe Consumer Product Safety Commission warns about fire hazards in power banks.
The recall affects INIU 100,000 mAh portable power banks, model BI-B41, sold on Amazon from August 2021 to April 2022. According to the recall notice, they have a black or blue case with the INIU logo and a paw print LED indicator on the front.
Power banks can overheat and catch fire. The company reported receiving at least 15 reports of devices overheating, including 11 fires that resulted in minor burns and property damage.

This recall only includes power banks with serial numbers 000G21, 000H21, 000I21 and 000L21.
Consumers should immediately stop using these devices, visit the recall page on the INIU website, check the serial number, and register for a full refund.
Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in a variety of devices, including electronics, home appliances, cordless tools, and electric bicycles. Their use has been associated with numerous cases of overheating and fire.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, consumers should stop using devices containing lithium-ion batteries if they develop an odor, change color, become excessively hot, change shape, make unusual noises, or leak.

Due to the risk of fire, lithium-ion batteries should not be disposed of in the trash, household waste containers, or even in regular battery recycling boxes. The Commission recommends that consumers contact their local hazardous waste collection center for instructions on the proper disposal of the recalled lithium-ion battery or device.
