Sudiksha Konanki, a third-year pre-med student at the University of Pittsburgh, was last captured on surveillance camera with five friends as she entered the beach at the Riu República Hotel in Punta Cana at 6:4 a.m. on March 15, the Dominican Republic National Police said.
Cameras captured the group heading towards the beach at the five-star resort.
This recording was the last time the girl's location was recorded before she disappeared.
Konanka's disappearance has sparked much speculation about the events leading up to it, prompting law enforcement in the Dominican Republic and the United States to launch investigations.
Authorities said a man who was with Konanki around the time of her disappearance is under investigation.
It is not known who the "young man" was, but police said he was on the same beach and is now being questioned to confirm his version of events.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet named any suspects. In a statement released on March 11, the Dominican Republic National Police said it was “conducting repeated interviews with key individuals who were in the immediate vicinity of the victim at the time of her disappearance.”
"This includes the staff of the hotel where Konanki and her companions were staying. We need to gather as much information as possible to confirm her movements, interactions and any other details that are relevant to the investigation," authorities said.
When asked about a report Monday that Konanki may have drowned, Loudoun County police said "they've heard about it, but there's no corroborating evidence at this time."
The investigation into Konanka's disappearance is being conducted jointly by the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic, the Dominican Republic National Police, and the Dominican Republic Attorney General's Office. The FBI is also assisting in the investigation.
