Russian Defense Ministry proposed to celebrate Russian America Day
A new memorable day may appear already in 2020 year. The Ministry of Defense believes that this will help the development of Russian-American relations.

The Russian Ministry of Defense came up with the idea of establishing a new memorable day in Russia - Day of Russian America, writes RBC. It is proposed to celebrate it annually on July 19, that is, on the day (according to the old style of July 8), when Emperor Paul I signed a decree establishing the Russian-American company for the development of Alaska.
“At present, in the Russian Federation there are no memorial dates dedicated to Russian America. The presence of such a date will contribute to the development of Russian-American relations in the field of cultural diplomacy and humanitarian cooperation, ”the notification on the preparation of the draft presidential decree posted by the Ministry of Defense on the portal of draft regulatory acts reads.

The Russian-American company was formed in 1799, the monopoly conducted entrepreneurial and administrative activities in Russian America. By decree of Paul I, she received privileges for 20 years, which were extended in 1821 and 1841 years.
The company had a monopoly on fisheries, trade and development of mineral resources in northwest America, as well as the exclusive right to open and join new territories in the North Pacific Ocean to Russia.
