Russian Ministry of Defense has created a vaccine against COVID-19 and is testing it in humans

The Russian Ministry of Defense selected 50 volunteers from among the military personnel for the clinical trial of the vaccine from COVID-19. This was reported by Russian news agencies with reference to a statement by the military department, writes "Voice of America".

This is a vaccine developed with the participation of the 48th Central Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The first group of volunteers will arrive at the institute on June 3.

The fact that the Russian Ministry of Defense is involved in the development of a vaccine against coronavirus became known in early April. Preclinical studies of the proposed vaccine were supposed to end by June 1, such terms were announced by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at a meeting with the president.

The work is carried out jointly with the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology (NITsEM) named after N.F. Gamalei of the Ministry of Health of Russia. Clinical trials of the vaccine are scheduled for completion by the end of July.

On May 22, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gunzburg announced that the center’s staff had tested the potential vaccine for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. None of them had any side effects, “everyone is alive, healthy, and happy,” Gunzburg said.

Performance data not shown. The exact number of testers, the academician did not report. We are talking about a vector vaccine based on adenovirus DNA, in which the gene of the new coronavirus is integrated.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova reported that Russian experts are simultaneously developing 47 vaccines from COVID-19, and the director of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F. Gamalei predicted that mass vaccination against COVID-19 could start as early as the fall of 2020.

In the last week of May, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that sanitary restrictions imposed to combat the spread of coronavirus infection would not be completely lifted until a vaccine protects the disease.
