The US Treasury imposed sanctions against Kadyrov and four other Russians

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, came under US sanctions as part of the Magnitsky Act. Besides him, the head of the Argun department of internal affairs is also indicated on the department website. According to the newspaper Novaya Gazeta, he was involved in the torture of gays in the republic, about which this year узнал the whole world.

The death of a lawyer in the detention center led to the adoption of the “Magnitsky list” in 2012, where the US included people involved in the arrest and death of Magnitsky, and, according to the US, responsible for torture and human rights violations.

An analogue of the “Magnitsky law” was subsequently adopted in Great Britain, Canada, and Lithuania.
