Mikhail Efremov will be released from prison on parole: he promised to quit drinking and never drive again

The Alekseevsky District Court of the Belgorod Region approved the request of actor Mikhail Efremov for parole from the penal colony, the publication reports Medusa.

Efremov in June 2020, while driving under the influence of alcohol, caused a traffic accident in the center of Moscow, which resulted in the death of the van driver Sergei Zakharov.

In September 2020, the court sentenced Efremova was sentenced to eight years in a general regime penal colony. On appeal, the Moscow City Court reduced the sentence to seven and a half years.

It became known at the end of February that Efremov was asking for parole. Efremov participated in the hearing of the Alekseevsky District Court via video link.

Actor promised to quit drinking and never get behind the wheel. He acknowledges his guilt and admitted that he misses his profession and wants to be useful to society. "My main enemy is alcohol. And I exclude it from my life," Efremov said.

The colony administration gave a positive description of the actor, stating that he was actively involved in cultural and mass activities. At the same time, the court session also discussed the violations of the regime that Efremov committed in the colony. Thus, they found a smartphone on him, from which he called outside (for this, Efremov was sent to a punishment cell for five days). In addition, the actor left his workplace to drink tea.

In January 2023, Efremov filed a motion to replace his prison term with forced labor, but later asked the court to terminate the proceedings. In the spring of 2024, it was reported that the administration of the Belgorod colony, where Efremov is serving his sentence, supported his motion for parole.

Mikhail Efremov's lawyer announced that the actor will be released on April 9.
