Mikhail Baryshnikov returns to the Louisville Ballet for an anniversary show.

One of the world's most famous dancers, Mikhail Baryshnikov, will be a guest at the Louisville Ballet show in the season dedicated to the company's 75th anniversary, reports WaveBaryshnikov will take part in the premiere of "Carmen," directed by staff choreographer Andrea Schermoli. The performances will take place on February 12 and 13, 2027.

Baryshnikov's association with the Louisville Ballet began in the 1978–1979 and 1979–1980 seasons. His debut then dramatically increased subscriptions. His performance of the title role in the ballet "Petrushka" at the Louisville Memorial Auditorium in October 1979 attracted particular attention.

Baryshnikov will be joined by other prominent figures in the ballet world, including Kentucky natives Wendy Whelan and Clinton Luckett, during the anniversary weekend.

“For our dancers, the opportunity to be around, work with, and interact with the legends who literally shaped the history of American dance is a life-changing gift,” said Artistic Director Anthony Krutzkamp.

The anniversary program will include several events, the centerpiece of which will be the "Stories of Legends" meeting—a discussion where Mikhail Baryshnikov, Clinton Luckett, and Wendy Whelan will talk about their experiences working with the troupe.

"Given his immense contribution not only to the ballet community but to the arts in general, we are thrilled that Mikhail Baryshnikov will join the ballet company's 75th anniversary celebration," said Jennifer A. Moore, co-chair of the anniversary committee. "Louisville has long been a magnet for arts lovers, and the return of legends like Mikhail Baryshnikov, Wendy Whelan, and Clinton Luckett is a true highlight of this anniversary year."
