Messi leaves the national team of Argentina because of the loss of Chile
The captain of the Argentina national football team, Lionel Messi, said that he would stop playing for the national team.
The reason for this decision was the loss of the national team in the America’s Cup match with Chile, writes with the BBC.
“For me, playing for the national team is over. “I did everything I could, but not achieving the championship is very painful,” Messi explained his decision.
This statement was made immediately after Argentina in the America's Cup final was defeated by the team of Chile.
The main and extra time of the meeting, held on June 27 in the USA, ended without goals scored, and in a penalty shootout the Chileans won a victory with the score 4: 2.
At the same time Messi did not realize his penalty.
29-year-old Lionel Messi has played for the Spanish club Barcelona throughout his professional career.
With him, the team won the most prestigious European club football tournament, the Champions League, four times.
Messi has won the Ballon d'Or five times, an award given to the world's best player of the year.
