'Melania ruined everything': Americans ask Jill Biden to redo the White House garden

More than 40 people have signed an online petition calling on First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Ehmhoff to reverse changes to the White House Rose Garden made by previous First Lady Melania Trump. Writes about it The Hill.

In 1961, President and First Lady Kennedy had just returned from a state visit to France, followed by stops in England and Austria. The President noted that there is no garden in the White House equal in quality or attractiveness to the gardens that he saw and in which he was entertained in Europe.

To honor Jacqueline Kennedy's contribution to the White House and its grounds, her immediate successor, First Lady Bird Johnson, renamed the East Garden to Jacqueline Kennedy Garden during a ceremony on April 22, 1965.

The petition says that the changes that were implemented during the presidency of Donald Trump and paid for with private donations, "deprived" of the US of Kennedy's legacy.

The White House unveiled the newly renovated garden in August 2020, ahead of the then First Lady's speech at the Republican National Convention.

The petition calls for 50 signatures and as of Thursday morning, April 000, has over 29 signatures.
