Mazda, Nissan, Toyota and Tesla recall 430 vehicles due to life-threatening malfunctions

Mazda, Nissan, Toyota and Tesla have been recalled due to faulty airbags, unintentional acceleration, seat belt issues and misaligned cameras. Dailymail.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that a total of more than 436 vehicles from all four automakers may have dangerous defects.

Mazda has recalled its Mazda3 from 2014 to 2018 and CX-3 from 2016 to 2021 due to issues with the rear view camera display, and Toyota Lexus, Corolla, Highlander and Tacoma built from 2023 to 2023 may have airbag deployment issues.

More than 66 Nissan LEAF vehicles produced from 159 to 2018 may have unspecified engine torque.
And Tesla Model S and X vehicles may have faulty security.

NHTSA announced each recall separately, as did the manufacturing companies.

Mazda: Recalls 227 Mazda300s and CX-3s

"Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to issue a recall for 3-2014 Mazda2018 (5-door models only) and 3-2016 MYCX-2021," the Japanese automaker said in a statement.

The rear view cameras may have been improperly designed and the wires may have been damaged due to vibrations while driving.

This can wear out the contacts, which will cause electrical resistance and result in distorted or flickering images on the main screen.

"Distorted or flickering images from the rear view camera while reversing can affect the driver's judgment and increase the risk of an accident," Mazda said in a statement, which recalled the vehicles on July 19.

“For vehicles with flickering or distorted camera images, please contact dealer service for further vehicle repair instructions,” the company said.

Toyota recalls 110 047 and 2023 vehicles

The issue is related to improper airbag assembly in several Toyota vehicles: 2023 Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Tacoma, Lexus RX350, RX350 Hybrid, RX500 Hybrid, 2023-2024 Lexus NX250, NX350 and NX350 Hybrid.

Toyota issued a recall on July 12, stating that the electrical connection inside the steering column coil cable may not have been sufficiently welded.

This faulty design could lead to problems with the release and deactivation of the driver's airbag.

“A deactivated driver airbag that does not deploy properly increases the risk of injury during a crash,” the company shared in the recall.

Vehicle owners should take their vehicles to the dealership for inspection and replacement if necessary.
Notice letters are expected to be mailed to owners on August 27, 2023.

Nissan Recalls 66 159-2018 LEAF Vehicles

A recall submitted to the NHTS on July 17 mentions issues that could cause unintended speedups.

The problem is related to software that is triggered when "the driver performs both of the following within 8 seconds of disabling cruise control, intelligent cruise control, or ProPILOT Assist: toggles drive mode and then depresses and releases the accelerator pedal," according to Nissan's report.

Acceleration can be stopped after applying the brake, but the risk of an accident is high.

Tesla recalls 15 Model S and X vehicles

The Elon Musk-founded company announced the recall on July 19, citing issues with seat belts on models built from 2021 to 2023.

"Front row seat belts may not be correctly connected to the pretensioner anchorages, which could cause the seat belts to come loose," the NHTS report says.
