Mass poisoning in the Boston Chipotle

Boston College said that more 20 students, including members of the basketball team, contracted an intestinal infection after they had dinner at a Mexican restaurant, Chipotle. They had symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal pain. These symptoms last from two to eight days after infection.

At the moment, Massachusetts Health Department staff determine the causes of intestinal disease.

Earlier, Chipotle restaurants in nine states of the country appeared in cases of infection of customers with E. coli. However, the company has denied its attitude to what happened in Boston.

“We do not have any evidence to say that this incident is related to other cases of E. coli infection. There is no confirmation of this information in the state of Massachusetts,” Chipotle said.

The restaurant, which allegedly poisoned students, is closed.

Earlier, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 52 infections with E. coli in nine states in the country: Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oregon and Washington.

Most of them reported that they ate at Chipotle a week before the onset of symptoms. Twenty of them were hospitalized.

The outbreak of E. coli began in Seattle, Washington, after which infections were also recorded in Montana (six people), Utah (five people), Colorado (four people), California, Missouri and Virginia. The age of the infected is from five to 84 years.

Source of E. coli turned chopped celery salad dressing. As reported by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the detected strain is quite dangerous and can cause renal failure.
