A man fleeing immigration agents in Florida was killed by a truck, marking the third ICE-related death in a week.
On July 14, a man in Florida was running from immigration officers and other federal agents when he was hit by a semi-trailer and killed, according to Associated PressFollowing shootings in Texas and Maine, this is the third death in a week related to the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
The 28-year-old man was in a car with three passengers. The car stopped in the parking lot of a gas station and convenience store in the St. Augustine area around 7 a.m. When contacted by agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, all four exited the car and attempted to flee. One of them ran onto a busy road and was hit by a truck, reported Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant Dylan Bryan.
According to him, the truck driver stopped and tried to help the victim.
It's at least the 10th death linked to immigration enforcement since President Donald Trump launched a massive deportation campaign last year.

The exact reason for the July 14 encounter with the agents was not immediately clear. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the operation and reported that the Florida Highway Patrol and the agency's Investigative Division were investigating the incident that led to the death of the Mexican citizen.
The department did not respond to an Associated Press request for information about the fate of the remaining three passengers.
Florida Democratic Assemblywoman Angie Nixon called the incident a tragedy resulting from the actions of an agency that got out of control.
"When U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents shoot a father on the streets of Houston, shoot a young man in Maine, or conduct operations that end in deadly crashes, here in northeast Florida, the result is the same: fear, chaos, and loss of life," she noted.
In two other cases, people trying to hide from agents also died after being hit by cars.
Last summer, a man fleeing immigration officials outside a Home Depot in Southern California died after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross a highway. The Department of Homeland Security stated at the time that agents were not pursuing Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez, a 52-year-old Guatemalan citizen.
In October, 24-year-old Honduran gardener Josue Castro Rivera was killed by a pickup truck while attempting to flee a roadside checkpoint in Norfolk, Virginia. Authorities said his vehicle was stopped as part of an "intelligence-driven targeted operation," but he "put up significant resistance and attempted to flee."

On July 14, the Mexican government announced it had asked U.S. state attorneys general to review the deaths of migrants in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody or during raids for possible prosecution.
