Additional bones and artery: scientists have discovered a new stage in human evolution
More and more children in the world are being born without wisdom teeth embedded in their jaws - Australian scientists claim this after analyzing data on human development over the past 250 years. The publication told more about the study "Voice of America".
According to them, over the past more than two centuries, human physiology has changed the fastest in the history of evolution.
Modern humans, compared to their relatively recent ancestors, have smaller faces, an additional artery in the forearm, and additional bones in the legs. This is stated in a report by scientists at Flinders University.
Most people are born with wisdom teeth, which begin to come out in adolescence (or later). Scientists believe that these teeth were necessary for people in ancient times to chew raw or very solid food, but now they are becoming superfluous.
As the face gets smaller, there isn't much room for wisdom teeth because the jaw has shrunk, says Dr Tegan Lucas from Flinders University.

The appearance of an additional artery in the human forearm also indicates rapid evolutionary changes, scientists emphasize.
Earlier, children were born with this artery, and it quickly disappeared, however, now, according to the article of scientists, every third person has this blood vessel until the end of his life.
The study also says that more people around the world are being born with an extra small bone behind the knee called fabella. Previously, it was believed that man lost this bone in the course of evolution.
In the human foot, scientists have also noticed additional joints connecting the bones.
