People are leaving America in large quantities.

Since 2010, more than 1 million people have moved from New York to other regions of the country. The state has the highest percentage of negative net migration in the country - 4,4%, according to the US census data.

According to New York Post, the number of people leaving the region, including New Jersey, Connecticut, and the lower Hudson Valley and Long Island, grew over 1 in the year from 187 034 people in 2015 to 223 423 people in 2016. The number of migrants who settle in this region has decreased from 181 551 people to 160 324 people over the same period.

Experts explain that jobs have appeared in regions where the cost of living is cheaper than in New York, and retirees also prefer to live in regions with a warmer climate.

“Historically, migration increases when the economic situation improves,” said the director of the research center Empire Center for Public Policy E. D. McMahon.

Most Americans are moving to Florida and Texas. Over the past 6 years, 217 104 people or 7,7% have moved to the Orlando-Dayton Beach area. Denver ranked second in the growth of internal migrants - 6,3%, Houston - 4,7%, Dallas-Fort Worth - 4,6%, Portland - 3,9%.

Despite the increase in migration, New York is still the most densely populated region in the country with 23,7 million inhabitants.
