Los Angeles: a few secrets to catch the spirit of the city

The biggest mistake you can make when traveling to Los Angeles is not bringing your driver's license or at least a friend who is willing to act as your personal driver. The scale of this endless city does not allow for any other way to travel: the metro is absolutely unusable, and trips by taxi or Uber at the end of the trip will cost a decent amount. But the prices for renting a car allow you to drive around the city in a convertible Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro (the same as Bumblebee from Transformers), imagining yourself as a hero from a local film.

By the way, the program of sightseeing cinema is the most popular among tourists and usually includes a walk along the Walk of Fame, a trip to the famous letters on the hills and a visit to the film studios.

Most of these places you have seen on the Internet, and except as a regular photo on Instagram, they are unremarkable.

But what really captures the spirit is the old El Capitan cinema, built in 1926 year. Firstly, he is beautiful inside, but before the film you are entertained by a pianist. Secondly, in front of him is the Kodak Theater, which periodically hosts noisy film premieres with the most real Hollywood stars.

If you are not afraid of the crowd of crazy fans, then there is every chance to see, for example, Johnny Depp from an arm's length. Such a photo on Instagram will certainly be better than the notorious star with his name on the Walk of Fame.

If you don’t care much about movie stars, then you should definitely go to Venice Beach - the place where Jim Morrison lived and worked.

However, he is not the only reason to go to the other end of the city. Here you can sunbathe (it’s better not to go to the beach even for half an hour without sunscreen) and swim in the ocean, drink a signature mimosa for brunch, look at one of the most textured skate spots in the world, buy medical marijuana, or take a bike and ride along the shore. If you're strong enough to make it to Santa Monica, you can reward yourself with photos from the photo booth, ice cream, and the famous Ferris wheel.

As you pay tribute to the Doors, be sure to check out which of your favorite artists are performing on the night, and they perform regularly. Go to the Bandsintown app, which will show you recommended upcoming concerts based on your playlist. Or head to Sunset Boulevard to watch stand-up comedy.

Before the sparkling jokes from eminent actors do not forget to implement the unspoken rule about two alcoholic drinks for warming up. This will help you to relax, which means it will make the speaker’s task a little easier. And do not forget the documents! Without them, you will not be allowed inside, even if you swear to drink water all night long.

At this cultural entertainment does not end there. You can join the beautiful in the LACMA Museum of Modern Art or in the Getty Center, where you can see not only the art collection carefully collected by the American billionaire, but also make excellent photos with a panoramic view of the city.

And lastly: being near the ocean and not trying seafood is a terrible sin for a traveler. Head to the old fishing harbor of San Pedro for all kinds of fish and sea creatures. And if you wisely followed my advice and took not only a convertible, but also a friend (read: driver), this means that you will definitely be able to taste a cool California white as well.
