Israeli leaders asked Trump to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Donald Trump on US Presidential Election.

He noted that Trump is a friend of Israel, so the prime minister expects fruitful bilateral cooperation, reports The Washington Post.

“President-elect Trump is a true friend of Israel, and I look forward to working together to advance security, stability and peace in our region. The ironclad bond between the United States and Israel is rooted in shared values, underpinned by mutual interests, and driven by a common destiny. I am confident that we, together with President-elect Trump, will continue to strengthen the unique alliance between our two countries and take it to an even higher level,” Netanyahu said.

In turn, Trump invited him to visit the United States at the “first opportunity.”

Negotiations of politicians will take place in the near future, reports Reuters.

Other Israeli politicians also congratulated Trump on his victory, most of them reminding his Republican election pledge to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognize this city as the undivided capital of Israel.

In particular, such a request was made by the mayor of the holy Jewish city of Nir Barkat.

Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Khoveli stated that such a decision would have been a “great historic shift,” and Israel’s Minister of Justice Ayelet Shaked believed that this would symbolize a “close bond and courageous friendship” between the Jewish and American peoples.

“I congratulate Donald Trump, a true friend of Israel, on his election as President of the United States... This is an opportunity for the American administration to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem, the eternal capital of Israel,” Shaked said.

Israeli Education Minister, leader of the Jewish Home party and one of the founders of the My Israel movement, Naftali Bennett, congratulated Republican Party candidate Donald Trump on his election to the presidency of the United States and said that for his country this could be a signal to reconsider the concept of a “Palestinian state.”

“We are grateful to Hillary Clinton for her friendship with Israel. We are confident that the special relationship between the United States and Israel will continue, and even strengthen. Trump's victory is an opportunity for Israel to immediately reconsider the concept of a Palestinian state in the center of the country," he said.
