Personal experience: can they not be hired in the USA due to the Russian accent?
Is it really because of the Russian accent they may not be hired? In short, of course, they may not take it. Say, if the specialty implies perfect English, and your accent is so strong that you yourself do not always understand what you want to say.
Again, you may not be hired if the emphasis is so pronounced that the employer does not understand your answers to interview questions.
And in general, although no one will say it out loud, this is possible in the region or in a small ultra-conservative organization, where they are not very positive or not used to immigrants. There are no such prejudices in corporations.

But it seems to me that more often the reason for the refusal is still not an accent, but general literacy.
If there is an emphasis, but at the same time your speech is extremely clear and you do not make grammatical errors, then there will most likely be no questions for you. Here you already have to look at the vacancy itself.
To be honest, in my marketing field this is all harsh: excellent English (both written and spoken) is a prerequisite. But if the vacancy does not imply language as one of the basic skills, then non-gross grammatical errors will be forgiven you, provided that you are a good specialist.
I see this moment in optimistic tones. Many organizations now set diversity as one of their core values — employee diversity (gender, race, nationality, orientation, age). Therefore, sometimes immigrants find themselves even in a better position.
I know a huge number of immigrants who took place in completely different industries.
However, I am also familiar with a considerable number of people from the Russian-speaking community who have chosen the path of entrepreneurship and are successful. And here everything is limited only by imagination.
Therefore, I believe: if there are limitations and difficulties, then they are 100% surmountable - with a core and motivation.
