In the summer, Americans will be paid money for meals for schoolchildren: you can get almost $ 400
US President Joe Biden's administration expanded the summer meal program for 34 million schoolchildren using funds from the COVID-19 relief package approved in March. The edition told in more detail KTLA.
The Department of Agriculture announced on April 26 that it will continue the disbursement program over the summer that replaced school meals during distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Families of eligible children will receive $ 6,82 per child for each weekday, up to $ 375 per summer.
Department of Agriculture chief Tom Vilsack called the summer benefits "the first game-changing intervention of its kind to reduce child hunger in the United States."
The program reflects the Biden administration's efforts to virtually eradicate child poverty - an unprecedented cash push for parents, day care centers and schools that could revamp the social safety net. Conservative critics warn that if the spending remains constant, it could undermine the willingness of poorer Americans to work.

Stacey Dean, assistant deputy head of the Department of Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services in Agriculture, said Congress previously approved limited funding for pilot programs to test the effectiveness of payments. But the coronavirus relief package has allowed it to roll out across the country.
In addition to food aid, the financial aid package allows parents to receive approximately $ 250 a month from July for every child aged 6 to 17. Eligible families with a child under 6 will receive $ 300 per month. The payments are part of the Extended Child Tax Credit, which expires at the end of this year, in accordance with the terms of the latest assistance package.
President Joe Biden plans to extend monthly payments until 2025. The extension will be part of a multi-trillion dollar plan.
Democratic lawmakers have called for the extended tax credit to be permanent.

“Expanding the child tax credit is the most important Washington policy in generations. Congress has a historic opportunity to provide a lifeline to the middle class and cut child poverty in half permanently,” Democrats said in a statement.
At the end of the school year, children have traditionally switched to other forms of food assistance, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Program, also known as SNAP. However, administration officials said summer meal programs typically cover less than 20% of the amount served during the school year.
Children may be eligible for the new Summer Benefit if they are eligible for free or reduced price meals during the school year, or if they are younger than 6 years old and living with a SNAP household. Children already on SNAP will receive benefits in addition to the program.
