The Cherry Orchard Festival presents Leonid Parfenov with the presentation of the film “Russian Jews. After 1948"

The festival "Cherry Orchard" is a creative meeting of a journalist and director Leonid Parfenova with the American public at the presentation of his film “Russian Jews. After 1948", created with the support Genesis Philanthropy Group.

The premiere of the film will be held:

February 24 - Miami;

February 25 - Бостон;

March 1—at Washington;

March 2—at New York.

With the killing in 1948 by the state security of the head of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee, Solomon Mikhoels, a new time begins in the relationship between the Soviet government and the Jews. The liquidation of the EAC, the shooting of its activists and the campaign against "rootless cosmopolitans" are shaping a new state anti-Semitism. "The Doctors' Case" is a new blood libel. The death of Stalin will abolish the massacre, but the former official Russian-Jewish harmony under socialism will not be restored.

Popularly famous superstars did not diminish: Botvinnik is the main chess player, Raikin is the main comedian, Plisetskaya is the main ballerina, Galich and Vysotsky are the main bards, many famous names in various fields, from nuclear physics to light music. But the Jews have ceased to be co-authors of Russian communism. And they are not allowed into politics any more, and they themselves are especially actively engaged in “anti-Soviet activities”. Without Jews, the shadow economy is inconceivable - “illegal entrepreneurship”, for which death sentences have been passed since the beginning of 1960's. And from the middle of the decade, the dissident movement began to be shaken - the grandchildren of Jewish revolutionaries brought the same fervor and fearlessness into it, as their grandfathers - to the overthrow of tsarism.

Allowing Jewish emigration in 1970 to make nationality a means of abandoning socialism and would be a more frequent reason for leaving than the opportunity to reverse its Russian assimilation. Finally, the collapse of the USSR will put an end to the “Jewish question” as it was found by the last Soviet generations.

The film in American cities will be shown in Russian with English subtitles, and communication with the author during the question and answer session will be held with an English translation.
