70-year-old lungs: Illinois teen sues vape maker for false advertising

Adam Hergender from Garni (Illinois) smoked electronic cigarettes for more than a year and a half. According to a lawsuit filed with the Lake District Court, the guy claims to be a victim of deceptive marketing by a San Francisco-based company.

“To put it mildly, Adam had no way of resisting these toxic time bombs,” Hergenroeder’s lawyer, Antonio Romanucci, said.

Hergenreder received a disappointing diagnosis of his lungs after he was hospitalized in late August due to nausea and breathing problems.

“It was scary to think about, this little device did this to my lungs,” Hergenroeder said.

“I was a collegiate wrestler before this,” he said, “and I may never be able to wrestle again because it’s a physical sport and my lungs might not be able to handle the strain. … It’s sad,” Adam said.

Hergenreder is one of hundreds of teens in the United States who have suffered from vaping.

Juul's stock price has plummeted since the Trump administration announced plans to partially ban electronic cigarettes.
