Lavrov: Russia and the United States are moving towards a compromise on the fight against jihadists
Russia and the United States are on the way to a compromise on the issue of combating the terrorist group “Islamic State”. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters about this.
“Whenever negotiations begin, the parties strive to move from their initial positions to some kind of compromise that will ensure a balance of interests,” the minister said. “I believe that we are now within the framework of this movement.”
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also noted that Iraq, Iran and Syria are interested in exchanging information with the Russian Federation in the fight against IS.
“We have data on how the terrorist threat is shaping up at a particular moment,” he said. “Partners in Iraq, Syria, and Iran are also actively monitoring this, so the exchange of information through such a coordination and information center is a normal thing.”
Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry met in new york.
Before the meeting, Lavrov said that the goal of creating a focal point for the Russian Federation, Iraq, Iran and Syria in Baghdad was to coordinate efforts to combat the terrorist organization Islamic State.
