Las Vegas now feeds exclusively on clean energy

All Las Vegas city facilities - from government buildings to streetlights - are now running entirely on alternative energy sources, city officials announced. This is reported by Huffington Post.

“We can boast that Las Vegas is one of the few cities in the entire world that generates its electricity in a clean manner,” Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said during a news conference Monday.

The ten-year goal for the transition of the city to completely environmentally friendly electricity has been fulfilled. Although all public institutions currently receive energy from alternative sources, many residential and commercial buildings remain that receive electricity in the classical way.

The transition began in 2008, and since then the city has saved approximately $ 5 million per year and reduces energy consumption by more than 30%, according to Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Las Vegas helps other cities switch to carbon-free electricity. San Francisco, San Jose, California, and Grand Rapids, MI, are just a few of those cities that are looking to switch to 100% using alternative sources for 2035.

Meanwhile in california will be implemented unusual energy project, in which scientists will study the possibility of obtaining electricity from cars, standing in traffic jams.
